About Us

The West Coast Youth Fiddle Summit was started in the fall of 2018 by Vancouver Island string teachers Trish and Geoff Horrocks.

They had just spent their summer teaching at fiddle camps across western Canada, and while driving home they brainstormed about creating an event that brings youth fiddle players together to benefit from shared music making.

The first Summit was held in Nanaimo with 56 youth musicians and five coaches, representing performance ensembles from Vancouver Island, North Vancouver, and Whitehorse.

Since 2018 Summit has grown to include over 100 youth musicians each year.

There are three host ensembles who share the responsibilities of presenting Summit each spring:
